PRI and ECA Head for Partnership
By the 3rd of January 2017, Peace Research Institute (PRI) of the University of Khartoum, had the privilege to receive Dr. Abdallah Hamdok in its venue at PRI meeting room.
Mr. Hamdok was appointed by the UN Secretary General, as Acting Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in 31 Oct 2016. PRI seized the opportunity of Mr. Hamdok presence in Sudan to invite him for a meeting to hear his advice and comments about the institute work and activities. Dr Mohamed Haroon, Director of PRI, suggested a way to link PRI with ECA and other relevant institutions. On the other hand Mr. Hamdok revealed a great impression about PRI programmes, contributions and impact. He subsequently confirmed the possibility of linking the two bodies in a sort of mutual programmes and activities. He also expressed his interest on PRI ongoing project of (Developmental Burden of Armed Conflict in Sudan) as a very important study that could be a pilot project in Africa.
Hamdok Also offered a way for connection with other institutions (working in field) in order to provide opportunities of capacity building for Sudanese scholars, as he highlighted that "opportunities are always available yet rarely availed".
At the end PRI was honored to have Mr. Hamdok as a member of its biannual journal board (Discourse)
